My mom bought this base coat from Muji awhile ago and I finally painted my nails with it.

My initial reaction is that it smells super delicious, like candy!

Finished nails:

Color: Essie's Topless & Barefoot. It's a very pinkish nude. You can't really tell in this photo but applying Essie nail polish is not an easy job. Because it's a light shade, when applying a second layer, you need to spread it out evenly. Going back over parts near the cuticles kinda ruin the nails and spreads the polish to the tips. I definitely think OPI is better. But I can't wait till Chloe gets back to try out the Illamasqua nail polish!

Will wait a few more days till I see how good this base coat is.

Milan (Birthday) Splurge

I'm currently in Edinburgh right now staying at my brother's apartment. Our family just came back from a 10 day Italy tour, we went from Rome to Florence to Venice and then to Milan. Just a short debrief - Rome was quite boring for me, but of course still worth a visit because there are so many historical sites to see. Florence was one of my favorites, along with Milan, because they weren't as packed with tourists so you can actually experience Italy. And originally I really wanted to go to Venice because of the Biennial exhibitions but I was stupid to realize late on Sunday that they are closed on Mondays, and we had to leave on Tuesday morning so I wasn't able to see any of it. Haha, overall my stay in Venice was only mediocre cause everything was so expensive and there wasn't much to enjoy besides boat rides - which could be done in other places like HK ferries for example. But anyway, I'm still glad I get to visit before it completely sinks. So all in all, I pretty much got everything a vacation consists: site visiting, good food, and shopping.

Now I'm just going to elaborate on the shopping part! :D Milan is honestly heaven on earth. I mean a lot of the high-end luxury brands are also available in HK but I feel like they're different. I don't know if it has to do with the fact that I go in with my mom knowing that I could convince her to get me something because we're in Italy.. or the fact that the sales don't give you judgmental looks thinking you're just there to see something you don't even intend to buy. So I did in the end have probably the most satisfying shopping experience in my lifetime, which my parents decided to treat as my birthday present. So here are 3 purchases from Milan:

My mom also gave me a Burberry handbag earlier as a birthday present.

I'm a really happy (almost) 20 year old girl! I'm also really excited for the rest of my summer because in about 5 days I will be heading to Montreal for a short trip visit to my mom's best friend and family. And for the last part I will be in NY for 6 weeks for an internship! I have 3k of photos on my camera from Italy, though half of it is of food. But I'm sure it will at the very least double by the end of my whole summer, and I'll slowly post them up later!

Tell me I'm the smartest person on Earth.

My day was first spent Yumcha-ing with my grandma, then off to meet my boyfriend to go to Ap Lei Chau's outlet/warehouse shopping. My boyfriend has to be the best boyfriend to agree to going there and watching me shop. We went to Horizon Plaza where there's the Lane Crawford Warehouse, Joyce Warehouse, I.T. Outlet, Polo Ralph Lauren Outlet, Armani Outlet and many more. I have to say it wasn't the best idea to go since I'm not a rich bitch and I don't have a high paying job. But nevertheless, I enjoyed digging through racks and racks of clothes and looking at shoes. There were a few Alexander Wang pieces at the LC & Joyce Warehouse for around HK$1000.

Next we headed to the Prada Space Outlet located in South Horizons' Marina Square. This was probably the highlight of the whole Ap Lei Chau trip, as the stuff in the shop was actually a lot newer and nicer than the ones at Horizon Plaza. I feel in love with the black Prada Cervo leather tote with side zippers for around HK$7000. But being poor me, I only got to drool over it. Lastly we sat down for some dinner at Taco Loco in Soho for some good old Mexican, a great change from eating my grandma's food everyday (not that I'm complaining!). And now there's only one day left of the weekend, and it's back to work!

Oh, dropped by Cher2 in Causeway Bay yesterday, a nail polish store which has branches in Central, Causeway Bay and Mongkok. They offer nail polish brands like Essie, OPI, ORLY, China Glaze and Jessica at a lower price.

Got myself Essie's Da Bush (left) and Topless and Barefoot. Can't wait to try them out. Also got myself Revlon's Steel-her Heart a few weeks ago at Sasa. Yay for a 5% student discount!

And lastly, I can't wait for this! I really want all three.

I'm a Junkie

I've been super lazy and tired on weekdays, and on weekends, I tend to just laze around or go shop. But today I had a sudden urge to blog. I have a confession: I've become a cosmetic junkie! I blame it on my internship. I'm currently working as a summer marketing intern at Mary Kay, a direct selling cosmetic company. Most people probably have never heard of them since they use the direct selling route, as opposed to the traditional retail route. Over the past few days, I've attended two skin care classes and done tons of browsing and research through magazines and competitors' websites. All this marketing has just made me want to buy buy buy. What amazes me is that a month ago, I couldn't care less about cosmetics! I have THE worst skin care/beauty routine. In fact, it's pretty much non-existent, only including buy-one-get-one-free Natio Gentle Foaming Facial Cleanser, Muji Light Toning Water and Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturing Lotion. All the products I use are mostly purchases from my sister or mom, gifts from my Aunt or random discount buys from Sasa.

What really opened my eyes (and wallet) to cosmetics was definitely attending skin care classes. Depending on the topic of these "classes", you learn the basics about skin and the full routine and steps you should follow, how to apply products and you get to actually use it on your face. More importantly, these classes are free and they really try to emphasize that they aren't going to pressure you into selling. While they may still try to subtly sell to you, its definitely less pushy than the sales you encounter in Hong Kong. The ones I attended were both for skin care routine, which includes five steps (Cleanse, Exfoliate/Mask, Toner, Moisturize, Protect/Sun Screen). We tried out their Botanical Customized Skin Care line and their Clay Mask. After really learning more about skin care, it really made me buy some Mary Kay products or run down to Lane Crawford or Sasa to buy masks and try out different brands like Origins, Nuxe, and Dermologica. Not to be biased because I'm working at Mary Kay now, but their skin care products are actually quite good! You can actually see the results of the Clay Mask whitening, tightening and lifting the skin! They also do a lot of research and consumer studies to support all their product claims.

Here are a few of the products I'm currently lusting over as I am (im)patiently waiting for my mom to come down to Hong Kong so I can make use of that Lane Crawford and Sasa discount of hers!

I ended up buying a white holey sweater (HK$250 to $125), a pair of jeans (HK$250 to $125) and a pair of boots (HK$400 to $150), which altogether cost me HK$350! As for Kiehl's, I got my boyfriend some skin care products and got myself the Ultra Facial Cleanser. Here are two of the photos I took that day, more on my camera that I still haven't uploaded yet.

Few months ago, for my Human Resources Management Class last semester, I had a course project where we had to watch a movie and evaluate HR-related issues in the movie. And so I had the mindset that the movie would be super boring, being a movie chosen for a course. Little did I know I would love the movie.

The movie we chose was Working Girl from 1988. Turned out that Harrison Ford, Alec Baldwin and Joan Cusack were in it. The main character is played by Melanie Griffith. The plot of the movie: "When a secretary's idea is stolen by her boss, she seizes an opportunity to steal it back by pretending she has her boss's job." (source: IMDB)

From Shanghai to Beijing to Hong Kong

The past 10 days have been full of flights, pampering, rushing, resting, you name it. Super hectic and relaxing at the same time, is that even possible? I flew back home on the 28th to Shanghai for a quick trip before I started my internship in Hong Kong today, then flew back to my old home on the 3rd for a 4-day, 3-night Beijing trip. Though I'm actually from Hong Kong, I think Beijing is my real real home, since I lived there for over 10 years. Last night, I flew back to Hong Kong in time for my internship that started this morning. If I were to choose, I would never fly back the night before again.

I still have all the photos from my China trip to fix up. In the mean time, here are a bunch of photos from random events in May that I was meaning to most.

Last Day of Class
This was a particularly exciting day. No more class and study break, translating to SHOPPING DAY! My friend Dawn and I went to Causeway Bay for much needed retail therapy. We first started out in Lane Crawford admiring the beautiful clothes, shoes, bags and other accessories too expensive to buy. We then moved to Lee Theatre for Esprit and Uniqlo, and then back to Times Square for Zara and later Island Beverly and Causeway Place. After shopping, we had a farewell dinner at Secret Garden in Admiralty for our guy friend going to US for exchange next semester. Last but not least, a trip to Tong Pak Fu for dessert!

Back in Shanghai!

I am finally finished with my spring semester of university. On my first day of summer break, I decided to "reward" myself with a trip to Central's Wang Fu dumpling restaurant on Wellington Street.

I have passed the numerous dumpling places around the area many times before but it was never an appropriate time to go eat. So since my friends still had exams and my boyfriend was working, I made the trip alone to Wang Fu after reading about it on Back On The Boat. I ordered the Leek & Pork dumplings, Shredded Potatoes, and some good old Soya Milk.

It was a tad bit oily and salty, but it was also kinda crispy with a soury taste. I'm not complaining, since it was a lot better than all the crap I had been eating while studying for exams!

After living in Beijing for over 10 years, I think I've really become a bit Northern. I looooove dumplings, so I was pretty excited to eat these. They don't have too much choice on their menus like in China, but I decided to go with leek and pork since it's pretty standard. Man just looking at this photo makes me hungry!

They were quite juicy and full of flavor. I definitely recommend paying a visit here, and I would also go back there myself. The place is run by this old lady and she's quite cute. I felt bad when she took my order cause she would have to shuffle to the other site of the restaurant to give my order to the kitchen.

After dumplings, I headed over to H&M. Loving all the colors! I bought myself 4 tank tops. I almost bought this fuschia romper, but they only had size 38 and 40 left!

After shopping at H&M, I headed back to my dorm to rest (shopping is a tiring sport) and waited till my friend was done with her exam for dinner at Hang Hau. This was what I wore that day. Totally wrong choice of outfit for the super killer heat, despite the previous few days being much cooler! Shorts would have been a smarter choice.

Still debating on whether or not I should return this. Any thoughts? A bit pricier at HK$149, but hey, it's organic cotton.

For dinner, we headed to Pokka Cafe. I ordered the Hamburger Baked Rice, and it cost a whopping HK$88. It was good and all, but totally not worth that much money. I don't think I'll be going back.

We then headed to Marks & Spencer. After spending so much that day (yeah HK$400 something is a lot to me...but hey, I'm on a student budget!), I didn't really want to buy more. But I was having a sweet tooth so I bought these gummies. They were SO DELICIOUS.

So now I'm back in Shanghai after randomly deciding to come back two days ago. Not as glad to be back as I had hoped but I'm enjoying the food! Posts on that later. And also some other stuff from before exams!

I really wanted to share this because I just think it's hilarious. So my lovely mother has a hilarious trait of loving to feed people. She loves it when guests, especially children, eat a lot. Once my brother's friend came for dinner, and after dinner he ran to the bathroom and had to throw up, and probably never wanted to come back again.

Anyway, my parents are having this Silver Anniversary Wedding party in a few days and we are going to have relatives coming to Beijing. A lot of them are living with us and so my mom is obviously going to stuff the fridge with as much food as it can handle, this includes ice cream.

I've never found a good way to store my jewelry. Before I would just keep them all in little bags, but it was difficult to find pieces that I wanted quickly. Then I got lazy and just stuffed them all in a pretty box, but then necklaces, earrings, and everything all got tangled up and it was even more difficult to get what I wanted to wear.
About a month ago, I found these clear 'medicine' cases that are absolutely perfect for jewelry storage. I'm so freaking happy about it, I open my cases when I have nothing to do just to admire all my pieces. They just look so much better organized, and I must admit I'm not a organized person in a way that everything in my room is super neat. Every time, probably about once a year, when I force myself to clean my room, you can expect the next morning for it to return back to the state it was in before I did any cleaning. But I'm pretty sure this 'medicine' case method will sustain for a while :)

Oh yeah, I'm on vacation already! I'm trying to get my boyfriend to help me take photos and update my blogshop for me because all my stocks are in Hong Kong. Except he's giving me the excuse that he doesn't have a camera... So we will all have to wait until he finally gets his bum to borrow a camera from anyone of my other studio flatmates for a jewelry collection update!

If you don't mind the hideous photo and to look carefully into it, you'll probably see a lot of items that are being sold at the blogshop. There are actually quite a few that will be in the upcoming collection too!

Also, because these medicine cases are working so well for me, I think I will bring them into the blogshop too. You can adjust the slots to change the sizes of the boxes inside, the small ones are adjustable horizontally, and the big ones are adjustable vertically. Anyway, I'll give a better description and have better photos when I have them up on the blogshop! I hope they will make you as excited as they are making me!

The great thing about having a working boyfriend is that we can have better meals! One of restaurants that we used to go to a lot was Ruby Tuesday. They have this VIP card where you pay a certain amount to have a 50% discount, which essentially is the same as paying for their regular menu prices. Unless of course, you plan to go there once a week or more. We usually go to the one in Kowloon Bay, which I think is the biggest and nicest once of them all. Since his card has expired, we haven't been at all. Just thought I'd share some of my photos! Some of my all-time favorites are the Chicken & Steak Fajitas and Chicken Strips, pictured below. Delicious!

People have the misconception that China is a very horrible place. Truth be told, I sometimes like it way better than Hong Kong. Yes, the people there can kind of be rude and love to shove and don't really have any manners and they may have bad etiquette, BUT can't you say the same about people in Hong Kong too? How many times have you been on the MTR during rush hour and have had a bunch of people shove into the train where there is physically no more space for them to even be on it?

Anyways, just thought I'd share my perspective on China. There's so much more to it that people don't know about. And having lived in China for at least 16 years of my life, I thought I'd put my "knowledge" to good use and blog about it.

My family recently moved to Shanghai, and over the winter break (yes that was ages ago, and I am only now blogging about it), I visited the Lolo Love Vintage store after hearing about it from H&M's fashion video (side note: what kind of name is Leaf Greener...?).

My boyfriend visited me during winter break so of course I forced him to find the store with me. After searching for hours over a period of 2 days, we finally found it. Tucked inside one of Shanghai's tiny art communities, which is going to be/has been destroyed, on 696 Weihai Road, is this hidden gem. It has now moved to Wuyuan Lu. The shop was opened by Chinese stylist & make-up artist Lolo who has worked with models Emma Pei, Fei Fei Sun and Shu Pei Qin. My initial impression was that the store was in a super dingy area, but upon entering, it was quite cute. I think I'll let the photos speak for themself now!

Hello.

There have been a lack of posts lately. Been rather lazy and busy, and also, been using Tumblr a lot more as it's easier to post random photos whenever I want. Anyway, I've been working like crazy on marketing reports and presentations and my language class report, and my social science class report and presentation. Been writing so many goddamn reports that I just really can't stare at Word any longer.

On another note, me and Chloe, the other half to this blog, have decided to make this blog more of a lifestyle blog. We love fashion and all, but who can live without food?! Plus, it's much more affordable anyway. And being the third-culture kids that we are, we have a lot to share, whether it's our taste in food or travel across the world.

The dress that Leighton Meester is wearing for the campaign is so pretty, and an absolute match with the perfume bottle. I've liked Vera Wang's scents from before, and recently I've been looking for a new perfume to buy. Of course, the Love, Chloe perfume is my first choice, but it's so expensive. It's double the price of all other perfumes. My bf says he is going to get it for me, but I told him not to because I know I wouldn't even want to wear it because each spritz is like.. 10 dollars. Anyway, totally off topic. I can't wait to see what Lovestruck smells like, and if I like it, it might be my new summer perfume!

The launch of this perfume was on April 29th in New York City at the home of Vera Wang. The new fragrance should hit stores this summer.

Essie Braziliant Summer Collection 2011

My all-time least favorite color is orange. I've never fancied it and I barely have any orange in my closet, and definitely none in my nail polish collection. But maybe because it's spring and approaching summer, I've been seeing orange everywhere. It's starting to grow a bit on me, especially after seeing Essie's Summer Collection for 2011 (available in June).

I can't decide which one out of the collection that I wouldn't purchase. From the photos you can't really see the difference from the two orange shades, but according to Essie's description, Braziliant is a hot orange with a touch of shimmer, and Meet Me at Sunset is a vibrant deep orange. I think I would lean towards Braziliant more - it is the spotlight of the collection, and it sounds really appealing. I would probably buy Absolutely Shore, Smooth Sailing, and Super Bossa Nova too. I might pass for Too Too Hot but, the description says it's a coral red and I don't have that shade of red yet ;)

eyelash serum review/comparison

So two days ago, I was curling my eyelashes and then my elbow accidentally slipped off the table while the eyelash curler was still clamping onto my eyelashes. So I currently have a blotch of missing eyelashes on my left eye. I think I pulled out about 20, and I really only have about 21 eyelashes on each eye, ARGH. I took photos that I can show you, but I don't want to put it up because it's so devastating. I researched online and I found out that it will take about 2-6 months to grow back, so there's not much I can do except use eyelash serums to help it grow out faster. I've wanted to do this eyelash serum review/comparison for a while now, and this is probably the most appropriate time.

The four that I have used throughout the last 2 years are:

Talika Lipocils (expert) $425 (340@sasa)

Trendaholic Eyelash Serum ~$220

DHC Eyelash Tonic ~$130

L'Oreal Renewal Lash Serum $80

1) Talika Lipocils (expert) - Made in France - 10ml

I actually repurchased this one. Before I was using the normal Talika lipocils, but they came out with this 'expert' version last year and from reviews I have seen, people say the only difference is that there is the new tip on the applicator. I'll have to test it out myself to see if it's true. Either way, the formula still beats all the other three in my opinion. So what Lipocil claims is that it helps lash growth by 36%, intensify lash color by 50%, and increase lash curve by 50%. I won't be able to tell you whether or not the statistics actually prove itself correct, but it definitely does do all three of it to some extent. What I like about this serum is that it isn't greasy and perfectly fine to put mascara on top of it. My lashes fall out significantly less when I take off my eye makeup - this I can really I swear by. For as long as the tube lasted (about 8 months), probably only about 3 fell out during makeup removal. It really is that good.

This is the applicator. As mentioned before, the sponge top is only for the 'expert' version, which is about HKD95 more expensive than the original lipocil. Honestly, I probably wouldn't pay that price just for the applicator, but I wanted to try the expert because the original one worked really well for me, so I'm hoping the 'expert' would help fill in my eyelash gap that I have now...

2) Trendaholic Eyelash Serum - Made in Japan

I got this one at city'super/log-on for about HKD220. The applicator of this one is just a sponge tip without a brush. It works well for getting to the roots of the eyelashes and also on the eyelashes itself, but it picks up a lot of product so I only used this at night and not in the morning when I needed to put on mascara. Even using it just once a day, this product was very good for promoting new lash growth, and also helped strengthen my eyelashes. In terms of length and volume increase though, it was not as apparent as Talika.

3) DHC Eyelash Tonic - 6.5 ml

This product has very high ratings in Asia. I've heard many people talk about it, and how effective it is. I must admit it's not bad, and definitely worth the price. The applicator is probably the worse aspect of it. It's a fiber brush that doesn't pick up much product so you have to be patient and put on a several coats. It did come to an advantage in the morning though, because a thin coat of this underneath mascara works quite well for holding curls (make sure you let it dry a little first before applying mascara). The formula is good for lash grow both in length and promoting new ones. My eyelashes didn't get thicker and darker with this product though.

4) L'Oreal Renewal Lash Serum - Made in China

Sometimes people save the best for last, but not me! This product did not work well for me at all. My eyelashes were so droopy after using it. The formula is very thick, and once you apply it on, it weighs down the lashes. After it dries, it also leaves a lot of residue. It did not promote any new lash growth, nor did it help improve the existing eyelashes. At first I thought maybe it was because I didn't give it enough time, but I've used it for about 4 weeks now, and still nothing. Usually these eyelash serums take 2 weeks for results, and I gave it double the time. There is one positive thing I can say about it though, the weird rubber applicator was surprising good.

So to sum up everything: you get what you pay for. Of course these are all just my own opinions and how the products worked for me may be different for others. I definitely recommend the Talika Lipocil, and for someone that is looking for a cheaper alternative, then the DHC Eyelash Tonic.

So a few days ago I was at Log-On at iSquare, and I bought three eyeshadow duo palettes and two blushes. And when I got back to the studio at night, I tried them them all on and went on with my daily makeup removal process. Then the next day I got a huge swollen left eyelid, but I know it's just normal dermatitis from makeup allergy, so there isn't much to worry about. Anyway, I called Log-On and they said they're perfectly willing let me exchange my items for other products. Except going back to TST is such a hassle for me since I live all the way at Shatin, and I'm lazy. So right now I'm contemplating on whether or not it's worth it to make a run back to iSquare to exchange my products for other stuff (that might just as well give me allergies too), or I should just keep them, and try them on again and hope it doesn't happen again? Give me advice! I've never gotten make-up allergies so I don't know if the product will give me dermatitis again or whether I can grow immune to it. I mean you can grow immune to certain viruses and bacteria, why can't your skin grow immune to its allergic chemicals? Some people grow immune to their grass/dog/cat allergies... I would think it applies with makeup too. My conclusion for now though, is just to keep them in my purse and if I'm ever around the area, I'll just pop in and exchange it!

Aw man, my puppy just peed on the floor! Angry angry. For all you puppy owners out there, do they ever seem to FORGET that they're potty trained? Honestly, my puppy's got his phases. He's either super good with his peepee and poopoo, or he goes and rebels against everything he's learnt and does it wherever he wants to. I really wish I knew what he's thinking. He knows he's only allowed to pee on his nappy and whenever he pees on the floor he hides afterwards because he knows I'll scold him, but he does it anyway! How retarded is that?! Is he really mentally retarded? How much does it cost for a puppy IQ test, I really want to get one. Man if he keeps doing this for the rest of his life, I think I'm going to give him to the animal shelter very soon. Haha, just kidding. He's too cute to give away.

I first noticed Joey when I was going through the photos on the LC website. To be quite honest, I'm not one for guys in skirts. But I do have to say I was intrigued. Thus began my search through his blog, entitled I N D I V I D U A L I T Y, which I definitely recommend you to check out cause he's fearless when it comes to the way he dresses.

There's another article titled "The Divine Mrs. V" by New York Magazine which is quite long so I won't include, but its an interesting article about her life. Some of the things they talked about were her "signature epigrammatic style" of writing in her column "Why Don't You" based on the theme of "Don't just be your ordinary dull self", her mother's comment about how "It's too bad that you have such a beautiful sister and that you are so extremely ugly and so terribly jealous of her. This, of course, is why you are so impossible to deal with", and in one memo she instructed her Vogue staff to all wear bells at the office.

It's been awhile since I've updated. Been so busy with quizzes, recruitment talks, sleep, and such. One of the many things was the recruitment talk for Lane Crawford's Graduate Leadership Program.

It was quite interesting learning more about what goes on behind the scenes and Lane Crawford, as opposed to what I usually think about it (the nice clothes and accessories inside the store). They also gave out these super cool information packets, with a CD, pencil, post-its, sticker, and some further information about the program and how it works.

Anyways, as I've been frantically looking for summer internships and future jobs and such, it made me think about how I really don't know much about fashion. What particularly made me realize this was when one of the presenters at the recruitment talk asked if anyone knew who Anna Dello Russo was, I wanted to pinch myself for not knowing because I've heard her name before. Yes, it makes me ashamed of myself just to think about it. So what I'm thinking is a project (for lack of a better word) where I'll blog about one person from the industry a day, whether they're a designer, photographer, editor, fashion director, whatever.

So today I've picked Arthur Elgort.

One of the reasons I love photography so much is fashion photography. There's just something so appealing to me about all the colors (or lack of in B&W shots), clothes (of course), models, emotions, mood created from just one shot of the camera. Anyway, I was reading Coco Rocha's Tumblr post about Arthur Elgort and it made me interested.

From the Staley-Wise Gallery:

Arthur Elgort created a sensation in his 1971 debut in British Vogue when a breath of fresh air wafted into the world of fashion photography. His free and easy snapshot style freed his models to move. Young and pretty models wore less make-up, were more casual and lively and moved about freely in the natural light and outdoor locations such as city streets, pools, and beaches which characterized his style. Elgort quickly became one of the best known and most emulated photographers and his influence changed the face of fashion photography.

Arthur Elgort was born in 1940 and raised in New York City. He studied painting at Hunter College and transitioned to photography. He attributes much of his spontaneous and liberated style to his lifelong love of music and dance, especially jazz and ballet. In his long career he has worked on major advertising campaigns, as well as on French, Italian, British Vogue and American Vogue, where he continues to work today. He has published several books, including Personal Fashion Photographs, 1983, and the best seller Models Manual, 1994.

I usually get really annoyed with my hair in my face, so this is a nice way to get rid of hair from my face. Found the tutorial on cutesygirl09's YouTube page. Just did a quick search and I guess she deleted it. Well, it's nothing that special, just twisting hair in so that you can pin it at the back.

On another note, there's the Lanvin for H&M men's coat that I got for my dad, but later returned. I guess that was a good idea, ended up getting a cookbook and marking down a few recipes to cook him (never happened), but that saved me a few thousand HKD.

Marketing quiz on Tuesday and I'm procrastinating by blogging, as always. Better go sleep and study effectively tomorrow.

Look what came in the mail today!

I signed up for their newsletter a month or so ago, and didn't realize I'd also get the Monki Magazine. I was quite excited when I got it. The packaging is really cute, with the umbrella printed on the frontside of the outside plastic, and the hot air balloons and ostrich on the back.

Wore this in late October. I think it was around the period when the weather was super cold for awhile. Felt super formal that day and slightly like I was showing off too much since the slip shrank in the dryer, but at least I was wearing tights.

I've had no motivation to dress up mostly because it's exam time and I've been locked up in my room, and when I do go out, it's to grab dinner. But also because this weather is so unpredictable. One day it's 25+ degrees with the sun shining, and another it's in the low 20's and wind. And also cause I haven't done my laundry in at least a month. Yeah, I'm lazy like that. But good thing I overpack for college and brought all my clothes.

Anyways, it's 2:37 and I should be asleep. More studying tomorrow, I have a an exam on Friday for my Chinese Cultural Revolution course, and on Saturday for Human Resources Management. Fun.

Ignore my yucky eyebags and pimple. This is what I wore in October for a visit with my dorm to the Hong Kong Arts Centre for the Popping Up exhibition, as well as dinner and shopping with Chloe in TST. I'm already missing the sunny weather for shorts and short sleeves. When it's hot, I want it cold, and when it's cold, I want it hot. Well it's kind of in between hot and cold. I want proper cold weather with coats and gloves and many layers of clothing.

Anyways, I love this vintage bag that I got in Prague when I went to Europe with my friends. I still remember making it my goal to go vintage shopping and come back with loads of vintage goods. But stupid me, of course everything will be relatively pricey. However, I'm glad I came across this bag.

It's big enough to fit all of my things in. And there are pockets in the front and back on the outside. And there's also a smaller one on the inside with a zipper. The only problem is that being vintage, it's got all these makeup stains on the inside. Its kinda gross, but in a way weird to think about what the owner was like.

And of course, a trip out will not be complete without me spending money. I have always had a thing for basics and this top from H&M just couldn't pass! It's super soft and convenient for when I don't feel like thinking about what to wear. Plus it's $79.90!

Lastly, to complete everything, I had to be a stalker of course and take pictures of this girl. Though individually, the pieces she wore were okay, I wasn't really feeling her overall outfit choice.

It's kind of hard to see her complete look since I could only get shots of her from the back. But is it just me, is it not weird?

So during the summer, my sister and I were digging through my mom's bag collection one night. I think we were talking about how many designer bags she had, and so we ran up to her closet. I seriously had no idea she had this bag! And there were tons of other awesome bags. We have a "rental" system right now. I get this, and my sister gets another. Love, love, love love LOVE this bag! The shape is great, the chain is great and the color. The only problem is that it needs a little polishing.

While I'm talking about bags and the summer, I was actually planning on doing a bag post for awhile now. This summer, I got 4 bags (including this Celine).

First bag, from my sister. A vintage Coach from New York. This bad is nice and convenient for when I'm just in a rush to go out and run errands or grab dinner.

My Mulberry Alexa fake from Beijing. I know fakes are baaaad but this was 80 RMB (almost the same as HKD, around 10 USD). 80 FREAKIN RMB! So cheap. I really liked the color. And it's somewhat different from the real one.

I love the amount of compartments that the inside has. A pocket in the back, a compartment with the zipper in the middle and small pockets on the inner front area.

The last bag I got was this Burberry purse from my mom and dad for my birthday. My mom was saying that I didn't really have a smaller purse for when I just want to carry my phone or money. But I was actually thinking the opposite. I don't have any big bags where I can throw everything in. I'm actually thinking this was better than a big bag (apart from the fact that I'd be too spoiled to be gifted a larger designer bag..) because my shoulder is usually dead after carrying my agnes b. bag around for a few hours, even when it doesn't have that much in it.

I love the detail on the strap buckle, with 'Burberry' engraved on it. To be honest, I actually didn't like this purse that much at first, just cause I'm not really a purse kind of person. I feel like it's so...middle school? But it's somewhat grown on me.

Anyways, off to bed, way too unproductive day today. Back to more studying tomorrow, exams coming up :( sigh... On the bright side, Christmas is coming up, which means Christmas shopping and Christmas presents :D And Australia & Shanghai!

Forever 21 Rumor?

Awhile back, Chloe posted about Forever 21 opening in Hong Kong. I know many people have been waiting and waiting and waiting for the news of the exact locations. According to the article Chloe read, it was possibly opening where the big Giordano is by the MTR exit F in Causeway Bay now.

Well, by the looks of it, it doesn't seem like Giordano will be closing down any time soon. I've also been digging through Forever 21's website, trying to find any press articles or new stores. Just today, I came across their new stores list.

No sign of Hong Kong opening a new store. So then I went and looked for when the Shibuya store would be opening, and I found a post from Fashion In Japan that said the store would be opening in January.

So, is Forever 21 in Hong Kong just a rumor then? I'm thinking so. Or maybe Giordano's lease isn't up yet, and Forever 21 will be opening there in a year's time?

So yesterday, I went and got myself the Lanvin x H&M trench coat with the fur trim and the men's coat with gold buttons. After talking to my sister, I think I'm going to return the trench, just cause $2990 is waaaay too much money for it. Plus, it's one month's allowance for me. Anyways, here are some photos.

It was super stringy at the bottom of the trench. Made my legs itch so much when i was trying it on.

Going to go tomorrow sometime to return the trench. Still debating on the men's coat. Hmm.

Just went to Diamond Hill to have dinner and do some shopping. As I was passing H&M and going up the escalator to the food court, I caught a glimpse of the Lanvin for H&M floral patterned dress. Immediately, my friend and I went back down the escalator and ran for the rack!

The only things left were two floral patterned dresses, a blazer, a trench with the fur trim, faux fur coat and the puffed sleeve black dress.

This coat was $2990 and size 32. Normally I wear 36 for coats, since I have wider shoulders but it seemed to fit okay. I decided to just go for it and so I bought it. I have 7 days to decide if I want to return it. After getting it, I decided to go for dinner and go back to H&M after. Had to get the jacket before someone else did!

I think it was size 38 or 40 that was left.

Didn't look that great in real life. I don't know, just not my style.

I might also have seen a girl holding the gold dress, but I didn't see it on the rack and that was my second time into H&M when I saw her holding it by the rack.

In the men's section, there were three coats, a dress shirt, cardigan, and trousers.

Bought this coat for my dad. Hopefully a size 50 will fit him and he'll like it. Kinda plain. Still deciding..

I think these trousers had a little buckle thing at the back of the trousers, can't find another pair on the H&M website that looked like the ones I saw.

Not as retarded-ly as Matilda's, but my shoes have decided to die on me too. But I'm glad since they smell like dead rotten fish (it even looks like it in the picture). I'm sure most of you know what I'm talking about, if you've worn flats. They smell so bad. Anyway, these flats have been pretty obedient to me for the past several months, no straps broke, cause there are none, and they certainly didn't try to journey off without me on a train. It's just the rubber part of the heel that is falling apart. I've been wearing them everyday since I'm too lazy to retrieve my other ones from my grandma's place and now it's time for them to RIP.

After work today, I decided to go buy a new pair of winter shoes - it's a colorful tweed material that I think will brighten up winter outfits. How exciting!

Qu'est-ce que c'est?

Yes, the ring I just posted about!

So happy to get my hands on it! It was HK$39.9. Not bad :D

Other than that, nothing really out of the ordinary happened. Just my shoe broke, no biggy.

I was walking in Uniqlo and it just broke... -_- I've only had these for half a year, too! :( It must be all those times of having my flip flop stepped on by everyone..

This seems to always happen to me. The other time, I was in Shatin and boarding the train to go find my grandma in Kwun Tong. It was super crowded on the train, and I stepped on, but then got back off cause there was no space. And right when I was getting off, my shoe fell off the doors closed. So then I tried to tell the lady to give me my shoe at the next stop. Luckily, I found it at the next stop, but had to endure all the embarrassment and stares while waiting for the next train to come to get to the next stop. Silly old me.

So, went to H&M to find some shoes. Luckily I had someone to hold on to while I slid my foot on my flip flops all the way down from the 3rd floor of the mall to the first floor.

And now, I have some new shoes to wear in the winter (HK$129). I guess it's somewhat a good thing my flip flops broke, since I was meaning to get a new pair of shoes. I left my converse in Beijing and really don't want to wear my Nike's anymore. Originally, I was planning on getting the grey pair of sneakers from H&M but they didn't have my size. They were also cheaper too! :(

I really do have the worst luck with shoes. I have photos to prove it...

I think it's partly because I walk super fast. I just have a problem with wasting time walking slow.

Sad face. Only had these for about half a year too, just like my Havaianas! And this happened around October. I haven't worn them since.

This is so cute! I was just going through my receipts (yes I keep my receipts...hah) and I found this one from Monki a few weeks ago with its little characters. I love the colors and the illustrations.

I mentioned in my previous posts that I was going on a shopping trip, mostly for vintage shops, after I was finally free from my never-ending workload. And I've procrastinated on posting about it, but finally, since I'm posting about the receipt, I might as well post about the trip.

First, we stopped by H&M. I feel like I shop there at least twice a month..really does damage to my wallet. But I just can't help buying one or two things from there each time, whether it be accessories or basics.

Though Hong Kong isn't that cold to wear hats in the winter, I got this beret cause I lost my old one :(

Again, HK isn't cold enough for leather gloves, but I'm going back home for winter. Well Shanghai isn't really my home, seeing as I've lived in Beijing my whole life practically. But my parents just moved to Shanghai.

I've been having an obsession with rings recently. I think it was after I saw Lisa O's post on rings, which reminds me. I was looking through H&M's upcoming products that they'll be releasing and this one looked pretty cool.

Gonna be on the lookout for it :)

Had lunch after at Ajisen Ramen, a delish spicy fatty beef ramen.

Then we finally went to do the vintage shopping. Started out by going into the Hollywood Road/ Soho area. Along the way, we passed by a huge crowd. Being true cantos and seeing a line, we went and lined up, since we found out it was where Hong Kong's first milk tea originated.

So when we finally got to the front, we realized the line was for eating at the place. Some stupid guy had said that it was the take out line. So in the end, we just stood outside and ordered from a guy who looked too busy for his own good.

Yayz to milk tea. I'm wearing my Zara trench coat, H&M grey long sleeve shirt, H&M Sqin jeans, Pedder Red patent bag, and silver chain from Beijing's Panjiayuan market.

Next, finally onto vintage shopping. We first stopped by Vintage HK.

Bunch of little earrings.

I thought this tooth necklace was super cool, but I wasn't willing to a few hundred HKD on it.

A bunch of vintage rings, again hefty price tag. But they were definitely pretty.

A Bottega Veneta for a few thousand HKD.

I was falling in love with that cute little bow ring and the aviators ring with the black stars. Looked quite cute, but I just felt like that might be something I could find in China. The prices ranged from 150ish to 200ish.

I also thought this skull necklace was kinda cute, and those bone earrings. I kinda never really wear jewelery, despite the fact that I still buy it.

I wanted that chain bracelet, but again, too expensive (around 200-300 HKD) for me to consider.

Super cool vintage watches and other accessories. Few thousand HKD for the watches. Maybe in a few years time!

Vintage sunglasses!

After Vintage HK, we headed to Armour Antique. There was a huge range of gorgeous jewelery, except most of it was above HK$1000, clearly unaffordable for a student like me.

Lastly, we headed to Select 18 to end our vintage trip. It was the furthest away and took a bit of time to walk there. I think one of the satisfying things about going to these little shops is the process of finding them and then finally finding it and discovering a bunch of hidden treasures.

It was definitely fun looking at all the jewelery on this shelf. There was this one tiny purse (can't see in this photo) that I was considering getting, but I thought I probably wouldn't use it too much since it was too fancy and I got 4 new bags this summer.

Bags, and bags, and bags, and more bags! I think they had a second hand Balenciaga at the store.

This shop is literally packed with stuff, not that I'm complaining. Though there weren't that many people after awhile, it was still hard to get around cause there was only enough space to fit one person on the sides. But I definitely think it's worth it.

I didn't take any other photos cause I was too busy digging through all the stuff. Another section was at the back, which included a bunch of menswear, as well as sunglasses. They were pretty awesome, but I'm guessing they cost quite a bit.

These are the pair of earrings I came home with, they cost me after 180 (there was a discount on most items), I think it was about 200 something before.

The owner, Thomas, also said that he had a bunch of Topshop stuff that he didn't take out, so I definitely have something to go back for! There's also a website, which includes an online shop.

Finally, went to Mongkok to meet up with Chloe and another friend for dinner. Since Dawn and I got there early, we decided to stop by Monki to check it out. I didn't take any photos cause it was super crowded in there, that I just wanted to look and get the hell out after.

I found two pieces I liked, one was a tank dress & a black slip that I ended up getting.

The tank dress (HK$150) was something like this. Well, not hard to understand what a tank dress is... I didn't end up getting it cause it seemed kinda baggy near the arm area.

The slip, HK$200. I've been meaning to get one of these, and since I was already spending so much that day anyway, I decided to get it.

Their character is super cute! Loving the design aspect to the brand/store concept, they really emphasize on the artsyness.

To end the post, more food! We ate at 西門町台灣麵食 Seam Eett Taiwan Noodles, super high rating on Open Rice (one of the greatest creations in HK).

鸡丝粉皮, in other words.....vermicelli with shredded chicken? well according to nciku.com, 粉皮means sheet jelly made form bean/sweet potato starch. Yeah, no idea. But I love the peanut sauce.

What Dawn, my other friend Katic and I all had. One of my must haves for Taiwanese food, 卤肉饭. Basically minced beef with rice. So much more than it sounds. The sauce is delicious.

What Chloe had, 牛腩面. Beef tendon. It had a lot of....tendon.

So much other stuff to post....too lazy and no time. 3 group projects for Marketing, Management and my Mandarin language classes. So many deadlines to meet. Hopefully I'll have some time to update soon.

Holy moly macaroni. I am excited to shop on Saturday. Despite the fact that I overspent last month. And I realize I kinda sounded spoiled in saying "I-don't-care-what-my-dad-says", but really, I do try to watch my spendings. I mean, I keep track of every cent I spend on an Excel spreadsheet! But every so often, I feel the need to reward myself. And I've also been tutoring a 2 & 3 year old English recently, just waiting on teaching 4 classes before I can get my salary!

I love Dries! The first thing I looked at was probably the blazer because I have an undying love for blazers. I currently have 5, all from Zara. The second thing I looked at would be the grey sweater (#4). And I was super excited when I saw that it was actually from Zara for US$40! Not only do I love grey, but the weather is final-freakin-ly getting cold and this sweater would be PERFECT to just laze around in and pair with tights or something.

I am already planning my shopping weekend now. Though I spent HK$5000 last month on so much random shit, I guess I really haven't learned my lesson yet on not spending so much! But anyways, who cares (my dad of course, though he didn't say anything when I told him, hm..), I am still going and nothing is going to stop me. So yeah, planning on visiting a bunch of vintage shops, been meaning to do so for such a long time! And I finally read about some from one of Time Out Hong Kong's articles about shops in Hong Kong. Yup, I can't wait.

The H&M Nov/Dec pics are out! I was just at H&M today and I actually already saw two of the things, the purple printed cropped jacket and the pink-green-grey-yellow lace heel. I'd say I'm not that excited about these pieces, but I think the metallic one shoulder dress is quite nice and some of the accessories.

Loving the collection.

I've always adored this chartreuse shade of green and the mix of textures and layering in this look kind of makes me love this shade of green more. I'm also loving the extra effect that those cuffs have on Karlie's look.

Again with the green! The sequins are so dreamy.

Who doesn't love form flattering dresses and especially chiffon? And this shade of peachy pink? Probably just me, hah.

So this just showed up on my Facebook feed...

Never expected in a million years to find a photo of myself on there. That day was freakin hot and that was my attempt at staying cool in the heat.

I'm wearing: my trusty white Topshop tank (which I really need to get a new one cause I wear it so much that it's just so gross now), H&M denim skirt, red Pedder Red bag, an H&M chain necklace, and a big chunky chain that I got in Beijing for super cheap!

I got to Central an hour before they were going to start handing out the Manifesto and wristlet, and I thought it'd be on Wyndham Street again. But then I wandered to the YSL store and found a sign saying it was by Statue Square. Since Chloe was busy and planned to meet me right before they started handing out the stuff, I had to line up all by myself. It was like 1000 degrees outside that day and the lining up was quite unbearable, especially when there was no shade. But once they officially started, the line went pretty quickly. The wristlet was gone in maybe 10 minutes.

Anyways, here are some crappy photos I took on my phone cause I couldn't be bothered to bring my Nikon out that day. Sorry for the shitty quality in advance.

A new H&M opened up at Diamond Hill's Plaza Hollywood. The storefront is quite huge for a shop inside the mall. Looked around in it for a bit but it seemed a little small, just cause it's one floor and everything seems to be squished together.

Lily Donaldson modeling for G2000...what?!

In the past week, I was observing G2000's fw2010 campaign. To my surprise, I saw Lily Donaldson's face. I didn't know G2000 was that big, and that Lily would do such a job... Didn't take any photos cause I'm always too lazy to bring my camera out with the super heavy 18-105mm lens. Seriously kills my neck. Really need to get myself a smaller lens so I won't be too lazy to carry my camera out. Or I need a lighter camera for everyday use...gr. I miss my Cybershot DSC-T50.

Vivienne Tam

Although I prefer Vivienne Tam's gorgeous dresses, I think these looks seem to be more comfy and suited for running around and doing errands. Not a fan of the shoes, though.

Marc Jacobs

I'm liking the dark makeup and voluminous waves. I'm also digging the colors that he used, especially the maroon. My favorite look would probably be the last one on Freja, just cause I love a good dress.

Badgley Mischka

Mark Badgley and James Mischka always know how to make dresses that are so sexy and beautiful. The makeup reminds me of a doll, which I think should have been done in another way. My favorite look would have to be the first white dress because it's sexy in a not-to-revealing way.

Vera Wang

I'm crazy for Jac at the moment. I first saw her in Teen Vogue's September 2008 Best Western photo shoot. The hair reminds me of something futuristic. It kind of looks like a side-beehive. My favorite look would be the last one on Jac for the use of sheer with the blue lining and paired with the white skirt. Really loving those shoes.

Rodarte

The Mulleavy sisters are really innovative and come up with the coolest stuff. However, I wouldn't say I'm a huge fan of their work, since I'm more into the clean cut and the more conventional type of "pretty".

Michael Kors

Loving the bright colors and the clean cut designs. Though simple, the looks are certainly interesting. My favorite look would have to be on Jac again, since the dress has a very intriguing design to it.

Dennis Basso

Certainly an interesting design on the dress with all the waves of fabric. It seems a little awkward for the model, since her arm seems to dangle awkwardly.

Proenza Schouler

There is an interesting use of fabrics for the designs. Again, not really the conventional type of "pretty". However, I'm loving those shades!

Herve Leger

Max and Lubov Azria always know how to make the best body con dresses. And they seem to never fail to impress on their designs. This collection has a lot of pattern, texture and volume. The shades of pale pink they used really complement their designs. My favorite look would be the third dress, which is very ballerina-esque.

Milly, Karen Walker & Elie Tahari

3.1 Philip Lim

Loving that tassel belt on Tao. The sheer jacket on Jac is also to die for, a very interesting fabric choice which goes quite well with a trench. Philip Lim's tailored looks are well-constructed, yet still innovative and interesting. My favorite look would have to be the one on Jac.

Marchesa

One word: gorgeous! Georgina Chapman and Keren Craig sure know how to design dresses to make a girl feel like a princess or queen. Pretty much the whole collection was jaw-dropping with the dresses that have so much volume and texture, yet still leaving you feeling sexy.

So by now, I'm sure most people have already seen all the shows at New York Fashion Week. Being the procrastinator that I am, I am updating on it now. I've been saving up all the images of the looks that I like and I thought I'd finally post them up now. There was a lot of sheer and minimalism everywhere. I love all the sheer but I always have a hard time figuring out what to style with it, though I just bought a sheer dress shirt from H&M yesterday, photos of it soon when I decide to blog more about my personal crap... Philosophy

Loving the Chinese inspiration and the fun, bright prints. I love Ferretti's take on the qipao, especially in the 2nd last photo. At first, I wasn't sure about the print because of the faces, but looking at it as a whole, it looks great.

What a beautiful collection! I guess I'm mostly interested due to the fact that he did Michelle Obama's Inaugural Gown, since I wasn't into his stuff before. But after this, I can surely see the hype behind him. There are a lot of hues of blue here and there, which is quite a cool color for spring/summer, but I'm really digging it. The runway and the decorations look so dreamy and the background somehow reminds me of L'Arc de Triomphe. Anyways, here are the looks that I've picked (basically the whole collection!)
